Frequently asked questions
As organisations begin to prepare for a digital telephony system ahead of BT’s analogue switch-off in 2025, GetVoip has provided a list of commonly asked questions to better prepare for the transition to VoIP. Our technical engineers and pre-sales advisors are ready to answer any further questions you may have.
VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) is a technology that allows you to make telephone calls over the Internet to any telephone in the world, regardless of the equipment or network the person you are calling uses. Because it uses computer and Internet-based digital technologies, it can offer many features and services that were previously impossible or very expensive using traditional telephone technology.
The customer will need a stable broadband connection. GetVoip will provide the cloud-based software (PBX) to allow the service to function alongside a package of bundled minutes.
We are partnered with 3CX as we find this software the most configurable, secure, and robust in the market.
Our cloud servers are located within UK-based data centres that have CCTV and biometric entry scanning. All servers are highly backed up to one of our other DC locations (offsite backup) also within the UK.
Yes, we can port a single number or a range.
Before porting, GetVoip will run a POV (Port Order Verification) which takes up to 7 days to complete. The POV checks that all information is correct to prevent the actual port from failing. After a successful POV, number ports typically happen within a 5-10 day period.
After POV, specific dates can normally be chosen by the customer.
We can provide you a new number(s) of your choice.
Most phones are compatible with our system. If you want to be 100% certain, please email support@getvoip.online with your desk phone make and model.
No! Before porting completion, our engineers will have prepared your cloud PBX service, set up extensions, and SIP trunking. The porting team will provide a temporary telephone number to allow us to test the whole system with you ahead of time. On port day, the number will automatically switch from the temporary to your ported number.
Yes! 3CX works with any computer or mobile phone. It can also be used within the Chrome web browser.
We provide bundles of 3,000 Landline/1,000 mobile minutes per month. These can be aggregated together if you have a few bundles and then shared between users.
Yes, we have over 35 zones available bundled into 7 zones.
Some calls are excluded from bundled minutes, and these are deemed as premium because the owner of the number sets the connection fee and the price per minute.
Calls outside of the package are billed separately the following month and can be itemised.
Yes, we encourage our customers to set a sensible price cap for an enhanced level of protection and also to protect against fraudulent misuse.
We have a few voice-over professionals that have previously worked for the BBC in TV & Radio.
Once you have been onboarded and handover is complete, our engineers are always available to help for the lifetime of your service by emailing support@getvoip.online.
